On Tuesday, from the AIDS 2010 Conference in Vienna, Austria, Canada’s Minister of Health, Leona Aglukkaq announced Canada is leading the global fight against HIV/AIDS through the renewed Canadian HIV Vaccine Initiative (CHVI) Research and Development Alliance.
Canadians can be proud that our country is leading the world in HIV research and development. Our Conservative Government is continuing to take action to reaffirm our commitment to the global fight against HIV and AIDS.
We are joining with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and establishing the CHVI Research and Development Alliance which will unite industry, researchers, scientists and international organizations. Our action will help ensure a stronger, more coordinated effort in the global fight against a virus which crosses borders, cultures, genders, and backgrounds.
In conjunction with the development of the Alliance, our Government is helping to make a difference by investing in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, primarily in Africa. This effort will help prevent the spread of HIV while researchers work hard to develop a vaccine.
Through this important investment and Alliance, Our Conservative Government is helping ensure that Canada continues its leadership role in the global fight against HIV and AIDS.
